The holidays are a special time of year when families gather and spend quality time together. That’s one of the reasons why we recommend what we call a “family meeting”. In a family meeting, our clients typically invite their family members to join us for a high-level overview of what we are doing for them. Sometimes we answer questions about our investment approach and their key goals, and other times we talk about estate or insurance strategies. We always recommend covering where important documents are kept and make sure that everyone knows they can come to us for anything - and that we are there for them. Sometimes family members are ready to start a financial strategy relationship or have us evaluate their existing financial strategy, and we welcome that. Others just appreciate knowing that your assets are being taken care of and meeting the people whom you have entrusted to manage your financial strategy. I think there’s great value in a family meeting, in fact, many of my clients have made these annual events. Over the years, I’ve seen family meetings deepen relationships, encourage communication, resolve conflicts, and prevent disputes down the road. If you’ve never had a family meeting to discuss financial matters, or it’s been a while since your last one, this could be a good intention to set for 2023. Let us know if this is something of interest or if you’d like to learn more about our approach. |
